Tribute Books Reviews & Giveaways: Traci L. Slatton – Fallen – Author Interview

Tribute Books Reviews & Giveaways: Traci L. Slatton – Fallen – Author Interview: Author Interview I know you get asked this question over and over but can you tell us a little about yourself? Maybe something juicy.

I am an author, wife, and mother who loves yoga. I’d rather travel than eat, though the two combine awfully well. I grew up all over the US because my dad was in the military. Currently, I am leaning toward anarcho-capitalism, because I am deeply skeptical of two groups: Democrats and Republicans. Also of liberals and conservatives. It seems to me the world is full of challenges too complex to reduce to a party line.

Something juicy? Ok, one of my dearest girlfriends recently threw out half my closet and then forbade me to wear industrial strength, granny-approved knickers. Now all my knickers are lacy. “Feel gorgeous from the inside out,” she advised. I am dutifully attempting this, and “a woman’s grasp should exceed her reach, or what’s a lingerie store for?”

Nights And Weekends – Fallen Review

Knee-gripping suspense and a host of great characters bring the post-apocalyptic world to horrifying life in Fallen. “

Book review written by author Margaret Marr.

In this apocalyptic tale, the world has been divided into Before and After. A killing mist spreads across Earth, taking out metal structures and buildings. Then it moves on to dissolve humans from the inside out. If caught in the mist—and the awesome power it has morphed into—the outcome is certain: a horrifically painful death follows, and no one can save the one who suffers.

Emma gathers orphaned children and does her best to protect them as she travels through a countryside that’s been laid to waste by a fog that liquidates everything it touches. But that’s not the only thing that threatens them. Bands of marauding men sweep through, stealing, raping, and killing whatever crosses their path. She knows that she’ll eventually have to find protection in order to survive—and that protection comes in the form of a man named Arthur, the leader of a small camp.

Arthur doesn’t usually allow women and children in the camp, but he’s willing to make an exception for this woman. The healing powers in her hands are a valuable asset, and he’ll need her to help rebuild civilization according to his vision—but first they have to conquer the mist.

Fallen is another captivating story about the end of civilization as we know it. People seem to be fascinated by such tales. Why is that, I wonder? Could it be that if we imagine the worst possible way for it all to end, it won’t seem quite as horrific once it does happen?…

Knee-gripping suspense and a host of great characters bring the post-apocalyptic world to horrifying life in Fallen. You’ll never know what’s going to happen from one moment to the next, which will keep you on edge—and it doesn’t end with this novel. The story will continue, and I eagerly anticipate the next installment.

FALLEN: Top Pick

HCHarju at Night Owl reviews gave FALLEN an outstanding review, saying “This book had all of the key elements to keep me turning the pages in anticipation. It has adventure, horror, suspense, joy, love, passion and questions that build upon each other until the end. I was sucked into the world and found myself rooting for the heroin. So many of the characters were like friends, that I felt bereft when the story ended. The end was surprising and left me wanting more.

Review of Fallen

One of the joys of being an author involved in promoting her books is discovering book lover blogs. Fictitious Musings “where bookish people share their thoughts” is one such, kept by (I think) a husband and wife team who are avid readers, writers, and bloggers. She’s even a librarian by day.

“…From every angle, Fallen is a captivating adventure with just enough romance to keep you enthralled and begging for more. …”

As I turn the pages blog

Just to warm my novelist heart on Valentines Day… Bookangel at As I turn the pages blog wrote a wonderful, thoughtful critique, and ended with… “…By the end of the book, I wanted to know more about everyone. What will they do? How long can they survive? Will they find happiness? The book ends with a very emotional cliffhanger. This is the first of a trilogy, and I can’t wait to find out what happens.”

My take on: Fallen

Looking at the cover of Fallen by Traci L. Slatton, I thought perhaps this is a paranormal book. Are there vampires? Goblins? No and no. It’s a post-apocalyptic world, where people have been stripped of everything. They have to rely on each other for survival. New alliances and intimate relationships are formed. But at the core of this book, is a love story. A love story that might not have happened if the entire world hadn’t changed.

Deadly mists are killing billions of people. The poisonous gases strike without warning, consuming flesh before completely dissolving its victims into little droplets of water. If you do survive an attack, your mind descends into madness. Those lucky enough to still be alive band together. One woman, Emma, relies on her maternal instincts and her new healing powers to get her through. Emma was traveling in Paris with one of her daughters, Mandy, when the entire world changed. Her husband and eldest daughter were visiting family in Canada, the only safe haven left. Emma mothers not just her own child, but several others she encounters. Emma and her brood move from place to place, scouring the land for food and shelter.
