Traci on the inspiration behind The Love Of My Other Life

“I wrote this novel for the hopeful romantic in all of us,” says Slatton. “I was inspired by daydreaming, really. I imagined what it would be like if a scruffy man showed up on my doorstep out of the blue one day, claiming to be my soulmate – albeit in a parallel world – and then it turned out he really was! But he couldn’t stay. Tessa is a woman with her own passion and her own center, but she’s lost her way. She’s been looking for Brian her entire life and didn’t even know it.”

MySecretRomanceBookReviews is doing a giveaway and review of THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE.

Reviewer Janna seemed to enjoy the novel, and wrote, “I loved the idea of there being an alternate universe where another version of you exists as well as the person you are meant to be with. …You never know what will happen, and who will point you to the love of your life, but sometimes the unexpected and unbelievable can lead you to your happiness.”

Meantime, Italian Blogger PleaseAnotherBook reviewed my dystopian novel COLD LIGHT very favorably. My Italian isn’t what it should be, I’m a little out of practice, but “La Slatton ha creato una distopia sconvolgente e incredibilmente avvincente che tiene incollato il lettore alla pagina”  roughly translates to “Slatton has created a shocking and addictive dystopian world that keeps you glued to the page.”

Hare Krishna, everyone, May love be with you.

TALK SUPE, “a blog about the wonderful world of vampires, weres, fae, witchcraft and everything else in between,” hosted THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE today. Braine gave the review, and it is smart! I really enjoyed some of her comments:

About Brian building a decohering device to travel to our universe and meet Tessa, she wrote, “Really dorky but I bet that’s what Shah Jahan’s people said when he went and built the Taj Mahal in memory of his third wife, Mumtaz Mahal. The thought is so weird, grand and romantic.”

Regarding the overall story, she said, “Despite belonging in two different worlds with barely anything in common, THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE is another story on how love can make us do great things and change the landscape of our lives in ways we cannot even begin to imagine“and “THE LOVE OF MY (OTHER) LIFE was a smart, hilarious and fast read.”

She’s got a giveaway going on, one paperback and one eBook, so enter here and Good Luck!

Meantime, since I posted the Youtube video of Romeo’s Daughter yesterday, I thought I’d post another band I discovered recently. This is 2Cellos: two Serbian kids with Cellos. Check them out here.

My Fiction Nook: Traci L. Slatton – The Love of my (other) Life – B…: Today, we welcome Traci L. Slatton and her novel The Love Of My (Other) Life . From the blurb: The latest offering from critically…

DAY 2 of the Blog Tour!

A little Q&A:

Q: What’s the deal with Brian at Yale and Brian in NYC?

A: We get to see Brian Tennyson in a few chapters set in his universe. Chapters 2, 4, 6, 8, 11, 15 & 27 take place in a world where the same choices have been faced, but different decisions were made…. The rest of the novel shows Brian here in our world.

Q: What’s Tessa’s first impression of Brian?

A: That he’s a scruffy homeless man, but not bad looking, with a smile on his face. And that she should be more creeped out by him than she is…. Q: How long does Brian have to see Tessa and convince her that they’re married in his universe?

A: 5 days, 4 hours, and 22 minutes. Not a second more. There’s slime involved.

Q: What’s special about Brian?

A: Absotively, posilutely a lot! He’s a big-hearted physics genius who builds a device for traveling into parallel worlds. But he’s terrible at cooking, singing, and performing magic. He’s also a hugger. And a devoted husband.

How fun is this blog tour, with all these lively blogs?! I can’t wait!

For any bloggers who might like to book an open day, here’s the link to a google doc to fill out online.

The latest offering from critically acclaimed author and Yale and Columbia graduate Traci L. Slatton, The Love Of My (Other) Life follows the beguiling and uncompromising Tessa Barnum, a 30-something would-be painter struggling to find her rightful place in the city that never sleeps: the ever-bustling, always-magical backdrop of New York City. Frustrated by a world that champions meaningless post-modernism and money over truth, beauty and transcendence, Tessa is about to be evicted, too insecure in her own talent to let her Turner-esque landscapes leave her closet, and emotionally exhausted by a recent divorce. When she is suddenly faced with Brian Tennyson behind every corner – a disheveled yet devilishly handsome man who, out of virtually nowhere, claims to not only be a Yale physics professor who has uncovered a gap in the time-space continuum, but also her husband in an alternate universe (!) – Tessa finds herself on a rollercoaster ride the likes of which she never in her wildest dreams imagined she would have to be prepared for. A touching and immersive portrait of a young woman reconciling her passions, convictions and realities with an impossible love story unfolding around her, The Love Of My (Other) Life is a surprising, funny and engrossing addition to any romance lover’s bookshelf, digital or otherwise.

And a few comments from the latest bright and engaging Goodreads review:
This book is nerdy and artsy and quirky and funny and endearing….

Tessa is a big-hearted artist with some personal demons and a single digit checking account. Brian is a genius physicist from a parallel universe – of course she thinks he’s a crazy homeless man, albeit one with a certain appeal. Their series of interactions is madcap and harebrained, yet delightful.

But even in the throes of despair, grief and pain, they are vibrant and full of life. The end is wonderful and gives the whole story a soulfulness that it totally earned….”
