Tome Tender: Release Day Celebration! FAR SHORE by Traci Slatt…:

FAR SHORE By Traci L. Slatton The After Series – Book Three Publication Date:  October 10, 2013 Publisher:  Pavarti Press

Dii’s 5 Star Review:
The world has collapsed and the nightmare is never ending for Emma as she makes an impossible decision, and must live with its consequences. Arthur is found, but what is left is hardly identifiable as human, whether he will live or not is in question, but Emma’s sense of responsibility, loyalty and love leave her no choice but to try to save what is left of him. Is it the right choice? Has she given up too much? Does she place too much stock in her own invincibility, her own self-importance? Does she have the right to gamble with the lives of others, to use who she needs to in order to survive? Are her powers evolving again or are they fading away? What of Arthur? Her family she left behind?

Far Shore by Traci L. Slatton, the third book of the After Trilogy raises just as many uncomfortable questions as in previous books as we come to the end of this series, but the beginning of a new world for those who survive the unrelenting mist. Ms. Slatton is making a bold statement by not painting her heroes or heroines as anything more than what they are, flawed, traumatized and yet brave enough to take a stand and live with the consequences. Emma is practical, very strong and willing to take more than her share of risks. Arthur is not the strong, mysterious character we knew and the change is shocking. Alexei, with his own demons avenged and soothed, impossibly has done an about face, as he witnesses Arthur’s condition, but can he be trusted?

Do NOT expect to be comfortable with all of the decisions made or the actions taken, this world is still bleak, filled with deceit and treachery, but there is still hope, there is still love. In the end, it may have been one uncomfortable decision that ultimately may save the world and someone had to be strong enough to make it.  If you’re looking for something to scrape a little on the smooth edges of your comfort zone, this series will do it, but be prepared to be haunted by “what ifs.”

On the HuffPo: BALLET HISPANICO SCHOOL OF DANCE ROCKS

On the HuffPo: BALLET HISPANICO SCHOOL OF DANCE ROCKS

Here is my latest HuffPo piece, on the wonderfully dynamic Ballet Hispanico.

So it was with great pleasure that I found myself at the orientation meeting for the General Program at Ballet Hispanico, where Director AnaMaria Correa welcomed me with a warm handshake. She smiled and said she was here to make the opening of school smooth.

She meant it, too. The orientation was a pleasure, with coffee and snacks served, and brightly colored student handbooks and program brochures distributed.

Ms. Correa was a bright, energetic presence at the podium as she welcomed parents and students, introduced her staff, and explained the school’s dress code, attendance policy, and rules. She spoke with pleasure and grace about respecting the beautiful art form of dance. She underscored the need to commit to the good citizenship, elegance, and preparedness a rigorous school requires.

“But don’t think of this as discipline in the negative sense. These are life skills. You’re bringing your child to us and we have a responsibility to you to help create artists. You can’t create great artists without structure and expectation. In June, you expect to see your child transformed, and this is how we do it.”

The school strives for excellent communication with parents.

Finishing FAR SHORE

Finishing FAR SHORE

Finishing FAR SHORE.

It gives me great, juicy, splendiferous pleasure to say that today I finished a novel: Book 3 of the After Series, FAR SHORE.

Tomorrow I will get back to work on one of my WW2 novels. I’ve been dying to work on it, it feels sweetly compelling to me.

But tonight, tonight I am celebrating: I have finished FAR SHORE. I like this novel. I took some risks; I am very interested to see how those risks play with my readers. I am curious to hear what my editor thinks. I am eager to get this book on its way and into the hands or ereaders of the reading public.

I am happy!

I wish I had a sneak peek of the cover to post, but I don’t, yet. Almost!

The WW2 novel is quite different from the After Series. I am quite happy to get to focus on it.

But tonight I am happy to have finished FAR SHORE.

There’s so much sorrow in life; so many unexpected challenges. Loss and grief lurk around every corner. It’s just the way of the human condition. That’s why I try to celebrate at every opportunity. So tonight, in my way, I celebrated.

I cooked chicken and okra and tossed a salad for dinner. In the evening, I walked the dogs down by the Hudson River and reveled in the blessing of the moment. My yellow lab Gabriel sensed my joy; he kept looking at me with his luminous eyes and wagging his tail. He’s my boy, that one. I came back and did a slow flow yoga class via my virtual studio Yogaglo.com, because it feels so good to open and soften and loosen my body. The body celebrates itself, when you open it that way, with deep breath that caresses every cell.

A celebration, a pleasure. YAY!
